The word for today is complacency.
“‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I would that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth’” (Rev. 3:15-16).
“For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard” (Heb. 2:1-3).
“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones” (Prov.14:30). “And say to Archippus, ‘Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it’” (Col. 4:17).
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Prov.4:23). “Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress may be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things; for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you” (1 Tim. 4:15-16).
“Let us not allow slackness to spoil our work and let us keep the fires of the spirit burning, as we do our work for God” (Rom. 12:11 Phillips)
