July 4—A Pearl for Today

“When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you” (Deut. 8:10).

On July 4, 2003, I wrote in my journal: “Don is at work on the devotional book. I am having a good time being at home doing some work and relaxing. I feel grateful and thankful for all I have. God is truly good to us.”

My thoughts turn to how privileged I am to live in this great country.

It is difficult for me not to take umbrage the remarks of ungrateful Americans criticizing the U.S. My younger brother retired from the Air Force after serving 20 years. My older brother served in and retired from the Army. He received a medal for driving a tank to rescue soldiers pinned down under enemy gunfire. One of my cousins was killed in World War II.

A great price has been paid for our freedom. Let’s take every opportunity to thank our military personnel and their families.

  • Pray for our country.
  • Pray for our President.
  • Pray for those in leadership.

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
