June 7—Experience

The word for today is experience.

“I thought to myself, ‘Look, I have grown and increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.’ Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind” (Eccles. 1:16-17).

“I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. … Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. … Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. … Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me” (Ps. 119:16, 97, 105, 133).

“Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord” (1 Pet. 2:2-3).

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15).

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act upon them, will be like a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and it fell, and great was its fall” (Matt. 7:24-27).

Prayer: Lord, the rock I am building upon is not the rock of experience but the ROCK of the WRITTEN WORD and the LIVING WORD.
